La Jolla Beaches

La Jolla’s beautifully rugged coastline is dotted with ten different beaches, each with its own unique personality and characteristics. Some are large and incredibly family-friendly, complete with playgrounds and large grassy areas, while others are smaller and more intimate surfing havens with killer beach breaks. A few provide great vantage points to watch the local seals and sea lions, while still others are perfect for simply soaking up some sunshine.

Wipeout Beach

If your perfect beach day consists of exploring caves and the marine life in the tidepools, then Wipeout Beach is ideal for you! However, you'll want to check for low tides as the ocean covers the tidepools for half of the day. This beach is known for capturing great photos, so don't forget your camera!

Boomer Beach

Finding hidden beaches is an art, and this gorgeous beach is a treasure. This beach is known for its great waves for experienced bodysurfers. For those who enjoy the sport of spectating, you're in for a thrill!

Shell Beach

Shell Beach is located in La Jolla and is perfect for exploring tide pools and hunting for seashells. Although this beach is accessible by staircase, it is rarely crowded, so take advantage of all this beach has to offer!

Marine Street Beach

Marine Street Beach is great for scuba diving and surfing! It is more secluded, which makes it great for sunbathing. On the other hand, its massive waves draw in the best surfers, which makes for an exciting spectacle!

Torrey Pines State Beach

Torrey Pines State Beach is one of the most popular beaches in its area. It is at the bottom of hiking trails just north of downtown La Jolla. This beach is packed with amentities, which makes it great for families with kids.

Children’s Pool Beach

Children's Pool is the perfect spot to see the wildlife that has recently taken over the La Jolla beach. This pool was originally created to serve as a barrier to the waves for children to play, but now it is home to seals and sea lions!

La Jolla Shores

La Jolla Shores is one of the most popular beaches in San Diego because of its gorgeous views. You can rent kayaks neaby and go scuba diving in the kelp beds! Whatever the activity, you'll find people having a great time at La Jolla Shores beach!

La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove is arguably the most famous beach in La Jolla for its gorgeous atmosphere and crystal clear water. The cove keeps the water warm enough to swim all year round, which makes it perfect for a number of activities including swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and even visiting sea caves.

Windansea Beach

Windandsea Beach is known for being so stunning that wedding parties come from all over to take their photos in front of the crystal clear water. You'll find no shortage of locals and surfers here, and after 6 p.m. you'll even see the occasional four-legged friend!

Blacks Beach

Blacks Beach is bathing suit optional. It is known for being the largest nude beach in America! Blacks is also known as one of the best surf spots so whatever your reason for the visit, this beach is worth the hike down!
